Stoney Acres Online

2024 is here, which means it’s a time for change. So many of us make New Year’s resolutions to better ourselves, but what if we made New Year’s resolutions to better our landscapes and gardens? That’s what we’re doing over here at Stoney Acres, helping our clients maintain their existing landscapes and develop plans to create a new come springtime.

While we wait for winter to pass, this is the time to maintain, plan, and prepare for what lies ahead. January is the perfect month to take care of a few pesky landscaping tasks OR sketch up ideas for a new landscape once the warm weather returns. Here is our January Checklist:

CLEAR THE CLUTTER:

We haven’t had much snow yet which means now is the perfect time to continue picking up those dead leaves, pinecones, and anything else that is cluttering up your yard. And yes, that also means Christmas decorations! Leaving things like this on your lawn can make it look horrendous in the Spring with bare patches and winter mold. So, it’s important to get this cleaned up as soon as possible.

TRIM YOUR TREES:

Winter is a time when many trees go dormant, making it the opportune time to trim your trees so they look fresh and beautiful come Spring. When the weather is warm, the tree is soaking up all its food supplies which means when we remove branches during Spring and Summer, we remove a lot of their food supply. Therefore, if we instead prune the tree when it’s dormant, no food resources are wasted.

DESIGN A NEW LANDSCAPE:

A new year brings the longing for a new look – for your landscape. Maybe 2024 is the year to make those plans in your head finally a reality. Working with a Landscape Designer can create the design of your dreams and winter is the perfect time to do so to line you up for a Spring start. Landscape Designers specialize in not only the aesthetic and horticultural side of designing and planning but also the structural work as well (AKA Hardscaping).

It helps to have at least a basic idea of your preferred style and maintenance level but be sure to leave some room for creativity from the landscape designer. Be open to feedback and suggestions. You never know where the designer can take you.

If you’ve been looking at that landscape all year with plans, make it a New Year’s resolution to do something with it finally! At Stoney Acres, we have streamlined the entire process, from design to planting, to make it super easy for every homeowner.
