Want a picture-perfect lawn next year? Then this is the best time for you to make sure that actually happens!
Mowing your lawn may not be your favorite task, but here are four good reasons why you should do it anyway, especially this Fall.
Reason # 1: Keep the leaves from blocking your yard
All those rusty orange leaves on your lawn may look beautiful, but if you don’t do something about those leaves, they’re going to end up harming your lawn. As you know, your lawn needs a healthy dose of sunlight, but if fallen leaves cover its surface then it’s going to be harmful to your grass.
To keep those leaves from harming your lawn, mow right over them and use them to mulch your yard. This will help add nutrients to your soil and keep your lawn healthy before it goes dormant.
Reason # 2: Keep your lawn mold-free
Many homeowners make the mistake of ditching the mower during the fall season, when in fact, you shouldn’t stop cutting the grass just yet! Sure, grass grows slower as the temperature grows colder, but that doesn’t mean you can stop mowing altogether. If you do, you’ll run the risk of overgrowing your grass and making it even more vulnerable to fungi.
One of the most common fungi found in lawns is the snow mold. To keep your lawn free from any mold, gradually lower the height of your mower until you mow at a height of 1.5 inches. Doing this will help lower the risk of your lawn getting snow mold and also help ensure that your lawn remains healthy for next spring.
Reason # 3: Keep your lawn tidy
Mowing your yard to keep it clean and presentable is always a good idea, especially with the holidays coming up. Nothing looks better than a house with a well-manicured lawn, so make sure to set aside time to put your mower to good use.
Reason # 4: Prepare your lawn for winter
Your lawn is more vulnerable during the colder months, so mowing it regularly is a good way to help keep your grass thick. Thick grass keeps the roots from the coming snow and helps them stay healthy despite the weather. Be careful though! Don’t mow your lawn when the grass is wet or if you’re expecting heavy frost in your area as doing so may cause damage to your grass. Also, keep in mind that during fall, it’s best to mow later in the day when the surface of your lawn is much drier.
